Made in Rwanda! 🇷🇼
Introducing our collection of African handwoven decorative placemats, trivets, and wall plates.
---
Handcrafted completely from scratch by skilled women from rural villages on the outskirts of Kigali in Rwanda, each piece is made 100% by Mother Nature! Our team of Rwandan artists harvest and cultivate sisal and sweetgrass locally, dying the strands with natural colorants derived from herbs and spices, before utilising traditional age-old African weaving techniques to skilfully blend unique colours, shapes and patterns to create each work of art. The designs are personal to each artist; a testament to the rich culture and breathtaking landscapes of the African nation. They can take up to a week to produce 1 piece from start to finish.
---
These African placemats are highly versatile and their multi-purpose nature make them the perfect fit for any interior decoration, table setting, occasion or gift! Use them as placemats to enhance your dining experience, as trivets to protect surfaces, hang them as stunning wall décor or gift them as a unique and sustainable present!
Pair them with our selection of matching handwoven coasters, baskets and trays for a full Rwandan decorative collection.

Size: Approximately 30 cm / 12 inches in diameter (size may vary slightly due to their handmade nature)

Our commitment to fair trade ensures that each woman is paid a fair wage for her work. Our weavers are primarily mothers and grandmothers who balance their craft with household chores, childcare, and other community responsibilities. In rural regions in Rwanda where unemployment is high and farming exists as their only source of income, weaving these crafts provide them with a crucial additional financial outlet. By creating and selling their works of art, they are building sustainable businesses for themselves, striving towards financial independence, and supporting the development of their local communities.
We aim to provide a global platform for these talented Rwandan women to showcase and sell their creations. When you choose to purchase items from our African home decor collection, you directly empower each weaver and contribute to the development of a more sustainable economic future for these remarkable women and their tribes.
